Bri and others with R-21 interest,

We splashed my boat today after getting the bottom painted. It has two coats of Trinidad SP ($260.00/gal.!!!), rolled on. When the boat first went into the water full time, two months ago with no bottom paint, it had a top speed of 9.5 knots at 3375 rpm. Later, I had a bit of fuel problem resulting in rpm decreasing. Fixed that problem, but couldn't get my 3375 rpm back. Also noticed top speed dropped into the 8.0 knot range.

The boat had a very light coat of slime when pulled, hardly visible. 🙁

On the way back to my slip the tug ran at 9.5 knots, 3375 rpm. So, no difference between a clean unpainted hull and a clean painted hull. 😀 Today's conditions, small waves, 6 to 10 inches on swells about 6 to 8 feet apart. There was a 4 to 6 knot breeze directly abeam on the top speed leg. I ran into some waves 1 to 1.5 feet which pulled the speed down to 9.3 knots until I passed thru.

Going downwind at 2600 rpm I read 7.1 knots on the GPS. Going up wind at 2600 rpm it read from 6.8 to 6.9 knots.
