R-21EC Cubby Hatch Lock

Just how does one manipulate the white doohickey on the locking handle on he starboard side of this overhead hatch in the R21EC over the bunks? I tried to open this hatch on my new (to me) R21EC tug and couldn't figure it out.

If it's like mine, you slide the white thing AFT slightly to allow the handle to swing to STB and UNLATCH the hatch. On mine the white slider engages some part of the handle when slid FORWARD such that the handle cannot be turned/unlatched. Sometimes I have to wiggle it forward to get it to engage else it won't actually "lock" the hatch closed. Not that it is that strong of a lock, really...

I have a late 2011 21EC and it would appear not much has changed on the hatch lock ........ so ........ what Dave said. 😀 😀
