R-23 Auxiliary/trolling motor install & set up

I’d be very interested to hear what other Tug owners have done for auxiliary power to set up their boat for fishing – especially those that have the R-23 model. Also any comments about the factory option that is available. Perhaps there is a second steering station used? Where have you mounted the controls? All comments welcomed – I’d like to be a bit educated before heading down to our local shop.

I think the main plus for trolling with the 9.9 is better fuel economy. (Not sure about that economy yet)

Using the F200 at 2-3 mph for extended times is not a good idea IMO as this will place undue wear&tear on the F200 and add up engine hours in a hurry leading to more frequent maintenance. The F200 engine is best when it's running at high RPM as that is its intended use mode.

Using the 9.9 for trolling is the way to go especially if you spend many hours fishing with it.

Yes, I tend to agree that the preferred trolling motor should be the 9.9 particularly in my case where I will easily put 100 hours of fishing time per year. But if Ernie only fishes occassionaly then it has minimal impact. And yes, the second motor is a critical back up.

I am looking at the Intellisteer system and having the Yamaha 9.9 controls (start/tilt) mounted at the port side of the rear deck. I'm hoping this will allow me to steer from the helm or use the wireless remote gizmo while at fishing off the back.
