Hello everyone,

We are considering ordering an R-23.

1. If we pony up the money for the factory installed generator, where does the factory mount the unit?

2. If we get the air conditioning option, where do they install the main unit?

I'm sure these choices involve giving up some storage space. I'm just curious as to which spaces you lose with what choices.

Thanks,

GL

1) Generator goes in the large cockpit storage area. It takes up about 1/3 of the front of the storage area which makes it a bit difficult to get to the rest of the area.
2) Sorry, don't know for sure, but I believe it is under the helm seat.

I have both options. Glad to send you pictures or look in my albums. The factory generator is fantastic for hot weather days and nights away from shore power. A/C is great for keeping my wife on the boat. The generator and additional strainers leave no storage in the center locker, other than above the fuel tank where we keep power cords and a couple of spare fenders. We are good with the trade off. We are now in Canaveral. Hot nights on the Indian River with no breeze make both options important to us. Yes, they are expensive. So are R23s.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I expected one of the units to take all or a portion of the main cockpit storage area. We cruised the entire gulf coast down to the Keys when we were 40 and had no generator. Now at 55, it sounds pretty darned nice. My wife and I will be on vacation in Hollywood Beach, FL next month and will try to take a day and run up to Jensen Beach. It appears there is a dealer there where we can hopefully look at an R-23 in person. I've got an Air Line by J Sink dive system I'll want to put on the boat. The main unit container needs an open space of 17" T x 25" L x 19 3/4" W. It may have to go in the berth/storage area under the dinette.

Thanks again,

GL
