Subject: R-23 mast's disc-like device

I've notice in the R-23 photo album on the RT's home/model web site a disc-like device mounted high and above the radar dome on the mast is shown. What is this ? Is it astock item, a radar deflector, a GPS antenna, or what ? Thanks 🙂

That is the factory over the air HD TV antenna. The R-29 and R-31 enclose it in a dome, but the smaller tugs have it out in the open. I get over 60+ channels with ours in the NY area.

Admiral S: Thanks for that info. 🙂

When this option is chosen for the boat is a TV also included ? If so, where is the TV located ?

Bruce:Thanks... I had reviewed the R-23 spec's PDF file earlier but could not find any reference to what that disc is used for.

FYI...
I have it on good authority that this small white disc is a TV antenna. RT presumably used to offer a TV option for the R-23 but have since abandoned the option.... sad. 🙁 The TV was installed in the V-berth area facing the bow as I understand it.

I have seen an R-23 at my Edmonds marina with the disc so presume it has the TV option. I will attempt to see just how the TV is installed if I can corner the owner some time. 😱 🙂

Have you considered calling the company and asking them what the deal is?

Thanks.. Yes... kind of. I will/have enquired on this with RT. I have one of the older Apple ATV units with a 160GB disk which I can load up with a bunch of movie videos suitable for adults and our grandkids.... might need an inverter though to power the ATV. 🙂 I guess another option might be to use a USB Thumb drive with movies etc on it so long as the TV had a USB input for this.

At this time I believe the Ranger uses tv's and antennas sourced from Majestic Global USA, they have 12v FHD sets with DVD and other features from 15+ to 32 inches. The also have a new ultra high gain 30db antenna that is only about nine inches in diameter.

Do you know if the new high gain antenna is a direct swap-out for the old one?

TK

It appears to have the same thread size as the old model if that is what you are looking for. Appears it would be easy to replace many of the same thread size antennas.

I found a R-23 with the TV installation today at my Edmonds marina and the TV is mounted on the V-berth's bulkhead above the sink; port side. 🙂
