good morning,
My wife and I are new to the san juan islands and have a dock that badly needs a boat 🙂 we are currently looking at an R-23. is there any body who may have a picture of the shower set up. I can not figure where it goes or how it fits the floor plan. is it a pain or quick and easy.
thanks for your time
john

Hi John,

The shower is between the berth area and the cabin. There is a pull around shower curtain that closes the space off after you shut the door. The sink faucet extends to mount in a bracket on the door.

The shower drains into a sump and is pumped overboard with a pump. Very tight but it is tall and can be completely private with the use of a pull over canvas cover that is folded near the windshield.

It would be a tight shower but it would work if needed.

thanks Jim,
That make more since to me know. I see you have one, do you use the shower?

Jim, with the information you gave me I was able to find a factory picture that shows a bit of track coming out from in front of the head area.
It also looks like a shower head mount just below the sliding hatch, is this correct,
does the head door close off the cabin compartment for this side of shower,
does the shower head poke above the curtain?
sorry for all the questions, the boats seems perfect for everything else.
what is the water line full length, looks like 28 or 29 feet?

Every boat is a compromise, the ideal is to find the boat that comes closest to fulfilling your needs. We used the shower in our C-Dory 25, staying onboard for up to 6 months at a time. The R-23 looks like it would be very comparable in terms of room and amenities, with the more upscale Ranger interior.

Looking at the specifications on the Ranger website, the overall length with swimstep is listed as 27'8", but no idea if any allowance for the outboard in that measurement.

Hi John,

You got it! Yes, the head door swings and latches to close off the cabin and facilitate the shower. We have never used it and I don't know if it sticks above the door but if it is privacy that cancerns you that is mitigated by the folded canvas covered frame that extends above the shower and conceals the berth space.

I have always used 28' for overall length but have never measured.

Jim

The shower head (from the sink) mounts on back of the closed door, not above it. My wife and I are both around 5'8" tall and the shower is very private and works good. Very clever space-saving design in my opinion.
