can anyone tell me where i can find the floor plans for the r 25 classic and the r 25 sc? i'm trying to see where the differences are with the larger cock pit.

Basically, the R25 SC's cabin is some 18" smaller in length. This means less counter space and possibly a smaller toilet cabin dimension. From what I recall, 18" was taken from the R25 Classic's cabin and given to the cockpit to make the R25 SC.

If memory serves me, there is about 16-17” more cockpit length in the RT-25SC than in the 25 Classic. The LOA between the two is the same. So, the extra cockpit length came out of the cabin length.
The v-berth areas are the same between the two models. The difference in cabin length is found on the starboard side by a galley and cabinet area that has 16-17” less length. On the port side the reduction in length is split between the length of the dining table and cave opening length.
In summary, the cabin length of the RT-25 Classic is just about 1/2 way between the RT-25SC and the RT-27 and the difference is mostly in the galley area.

I agree with all the above but would like to add that with the cabin being 17-18" shorter and allowing a larger cockpit also allows the engine to be totally in the cockpit allowing the cabin to have less decibels of engine noise. Plus the 25 SC cabin being smaller only allows for a single burner propane stove and no oven which is no problem for us. Hope this helps.

We love our 25SC, we looked at both 25 models before buying her. My concern about the SC was the smaller galley and head. I asked my admiral which she liked best, she said she would be perfectly fine with the slightly shorter galley and one burner. I tested the head to see if I could really stand in there and shower and I could with no problem. The big bonuses are the engine out of the cabin and under the cockpit, which makes it both quieter and easier to service, not that it is easy to service but easier in the SC. Also, the longer cockpit gives us more space to enjoy being outside when the weather is nice and gave me plenty of room to mount a BBQ on the rail. Hope that is a help.

I think all these responses sum it up well. It’s a matter of trade offs between bigger cockpit, quieter cabin, slightly easier engine access vs bigger galley with more inside storage.
For our cruising style with longer trips (7-24 days) away from marinas the larger galley with more storage was the priority.
PS: We prepare about 100 meals a year using our galley. Food/meals went from the #1 cost of cruising in our prior 24 ft cabin cruiser down to a distant 4th place using the larger galley area in the RT-25 Classic.

Go on the Ranger Tug website and at the top click on Past models. Quite a bit of info there.

We love the extra cockpit space of the SC because we are outdoors people. We have always been used to spending as much time as possible outdoors when we camp, sitting out and cooking on the grill; so giving up some galley space for outdoor living was an easy choice for us. Having the front of the engine not under the cabin door sill is a bonus for both easier service and noise reduction.

thanks to everyone for all of the useful information. much appreciated!

You asked about floor plans but remember there are other significant differences between the RT-25 SC and the RT-25 Classic.
Classics had Yanmar 110 hp, Yanmar 125ish hp, Yanmar 150 hp and Cummings 150 hp engines. The older SCs had the Yanmar 150 hp and the newer 25 SCs have a Volvo 150 hp power plant. The different engines offer different performance and different maintenance issues. I’m very happy with the performance from our 150 hp Yanmar.
Another difference can be in the electronics used. Older Classics used Raymarine hardware. In about 2009 RT switched to Garmin electronics. And in about 2010 the Garmin Autopilot became an option.
Fabric upholstery and vinyl used on the Classics and older SCs (as well as on 27s, 29s and 31s) has been an issue. Many, including us, have needed to reupholster all the seating.
Regardless of model, IMO it’s wise to get both a marine survey and mechanical survey from qualified inspectors.
I’m sure other folks can chime in with other important differences between the 25 SC and 25 Classic.
