Hello! I don't have my tug at home yet so I can't measure. I found that the mattress in the bearth is about 65 inches long. What is the max width? I am thinking about buying a gel mattress pad at Costco and not sure if I should get a queen or king-Then I guess we have to trim it... Any suggestions? Don't want to spend thousands for a made to order one. Thanks!

yachtbedding.com has templates for RT/Cutwater boats, and their mattress toppers start at $575. Probably a bit more than the Costco one but not 1000's...

We had a R25 SC which has the same V-Berth as the R27 Classic. We used a King mattress topper and trimmed it with an electric carving knife. We spent the money for a custom topper and custom fitted sheets from Yacht Bedding when we bought our R29 and there is no question they do have a nice fit. Their topper is also very thick and weighs more than the less expensive one we used on the R25. Either one is a big improvement over the original mattress that comes in sections and you feel those sections without the topper.

By the way. When I installed my topper I cut individual sections to match the existing. This allowed for keeping the middle sections out during the day and access to the storage on either side. Also made individual fitted sheets for each. It was a bit more work, but we were happy with the end result.

I bit the bullet about 10 months ago for a custom mattress topper, custom mattress pad, custom fitted sheets and a custom bed spread from Yachtbedding.com. I too considered multiple options from Costco, Amazon Essentials and Target. While stroking that $2K check hurt, I’m glad we did it. Making the bed is a breeze, it always looks nice with the custom bedspread and matching pillows and it’s just as comfy as our bed at home. It takes about 2 months from order to delivery.

Knotflying makes a very good point about their approach to upgrading the bedding in the vbirth - our approach to the problem going with the Yachtbedding.com solution renders the vbirth storage virtually unusable. We keep very seasonal long term storage things up there like beach chairs and an umbrella because it’s a pain to get into those deep starboard and port storage bins with the heavy, one piece custom mattress cover.

We did not do the mattress topper approach. We purchased a king mattress and cut it to fit each section of the berth. I made plywood decking (covered with sunbrella-type fabric as a finish) to replace the original bedding panels. Added about 4 inches to the bed height, but I can access each storage area underneath the bed and we can remove the system completely for times when we aren’t sleeping aboard and are entertaining guests (berth configured with table). It’s nice to be sleeping on a real mattress.

The good part about making removable fitted covers for the individual topper panels was that they were easy to remove and wash.

Thank you all! Lot's of good ideas!!! WOW!
