R-27/OB Video/photos-Maiden Voyage - Mystery Bay/Marrowstone

The 1095 looks nice, but now we are up to 11000 lbs! The 895 is a 9.5' beam (if that matters to folks), and the interior is definitely Euro/mimimalist compared to the nice wood and better upholstery in the Cutwater... I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I've seen a few videos on youtube of the 895, seems like the ride is a little rough, lots of slapping... I'm thinking the semi-displacement hull of the inboard C26 would be much smoother off the coast? If I were sticking to lakes, the 895 would be fast and smooth enough... Thoughts?

I looked hard at the R27, and we'd driven the state looking including a factory visit. We chartered an R31 two years ago, and it was a solid boat, beat through some really rough water in the Haro straight. When we saw the Jeanneau NC 895 in 2018, we really feel it hit all of our wish list items. The advantage the R27 had was really in trailer-ability and the rough weather handling. The pre outboard R27s are cut a little deeper and the weight plus the 8.5 beam should work way better for travailing.

The downside is the new outboard boats are flatter on the bottom, and I'm guessing (not having taken the 27 in rough weather) they don't handle the weather as well. Also it makes the quarter berth way smaller.

All that said we went with the 895. The wider beam, 9'9", two private (with actual doors) state rooms, offset cabin with huge walkway on the starboard side (kids can go forward underway), large helm station door, great visibility, and twin 200s won us over. She's a bit heavy, ~9700lbs with no fluids or extra gear, and trailering means a $30 monthly permit to the state of WA to go over 8.5". The 9'9" gives you a whopping 1" on either side to clear the trucks and driving instagrammers.

One other thing worth mentioning.... In the cave entrance on its aft wall in bottom corner nearest the cabin's isle there's a small square panel with a finger hole. Using the finger this small panel can be disengaged from its telco fastener to expose two fuse blocks. One is covered and the other one is not covered as it's to awkward to get at. Peering into this cavity will be almost pitch black/dark. One would need a flash light to see things which in itself makes it even more awkward for seeing things being almost belly down on the cabin floor. My solution is to have a LED motion/light sensitive strip light inside this cavity to illuminate the cavity. This is what I use... Stick-On Anywhere Portable Wireless Automatic Motion Sensing Pure White LED Light Bar with Magnetic Strip for Closet Locker Basement (AAA Battery Operated) - Silverhttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GP4UE7S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The ones I have have an adhesive strip rather than a magnetic strip. If you do fix them to a surface just make sure you have access to the strip's battery compartment, otherwise you'll have difficulties placing new batteries in it. 😉

I note that Amazon no longer has these in stock, so I'm glad when I bought mine I made Qty=6 as I know they will be useful on the boat and around the house. They work very well and give off a great deal of light.

When I showed this to Kenny Marrs he was impressed and thought that RT may use something similar for future use on the boats having dark cavities etc. 🙂

There is now a less-expensive alternate product on AZN. Click on Baz' original link and look at "suggested similar product(s)". Looks like the same thing, but slightly changed appearance. $21.

Please advise on factory comments/resolution on items #2 & #3 on your list. Have similar items on my Fall dealer minor item punch list for my new R 23 in Maryland. Been enjoying your narrative - many similarities to the R-23. Thx again.
