Has anyone come across a used Thruster Motor for a R-27? I just found out that the housing on mine had three cracks and it allowed seawater to enter the motor. This caused total failure. I can't imagine how the housing would crack all by itself as it is so buried deep in the hull. I would love to find a used or rebuilt thruster motor. If you know of one please let me hear from you. wcameron8@aol.com (716) 308-5970

While I was replacing the shear pin on my r29 rear thruster I too noticed a small crack in the plastic housing. I however was a bit luckier than you as there was only a teaspoon of fresh water inside the housing which didn't damage anything and I was able to patch the crack to prevent further intrusion.

Are you sure it was sea water or could it be rain water? If it was rain water you maybe able to salvage it if the problem was caught early by bringing to a motor/generator shop and have it refurbished for a few hundred

Inspecting the cheesy plastic housing should be an occasion routine maintenance check. I assume there are more cracked housings out there in tugland just waiting to cause problems.

I’ve had a thruster rebuilt, I’ve bought one new. There’s a lot going on inside, motor, switches, solenoids. The rebuild needed just the switches, the motor had some life left to it, the other thruster was shot.

The rebuild became troublesome again within two years, this on a trailer boat. I saw pictures of the interior of both, equally rusty and corroded.

In my opinion there’s too much going on inside, they are too hard to get to for the R n R and aren't something you want to not work when you need it to work, tight quarter maneuvering and all you’re not going to just drift, you’re going to hit something.

Found my new one on the Internet, about $2,400, shipping from Florida was about $50 not too bad. New one sounds like a box a rocks just like every thruster I’ve listened to
