Ladybug, Too is a 2009 R-29 with the Garmin 5215 package. Where is the transducer unit located and what fluid was used to fill the transducer well. If it is where I think it is, I don't want to crawl into that space without the right stuff. I barely fit in there and a pound or two more and I might have to wait a week or two before I can get out.

Not sure where the exact location is on the 29, but on the 25 it is at the stern on the starboard side below the storage cabinet. Regular engine antifreeze will work for the fluid.

Hello Pat,

Mike's correct the transducer is located in aft cockpit compartment. If you have the aux fuel tank it will be just behind that. We use a straight epoxy to mount the transducer from the factory. There is no cup with fluid in it.

Are you having an issue reading depth? If so make sure your gain is set to auto.

Thanks,
-Kenny

Kenny,

It is not losing "lock" but losing depth data all together. There are just a series of dashes. The problem comes and goes and, at the moment, everything is running fine. I have had an ongoing issue with glow plug alarms and after quite a struggle Yanmar seems to have a reasonable explanation. The network voltage is about one volt below battery until the engine alternator kicks in and then as network voltage rises to 13.1 the alarms go away. Depth data may be affected by low network voltage. Still some issue from my past lightning strike I guess. The start and thruster batteries are less than one year old and holding charge just fine. The engine starts quickly, there is not starter lag and battery voltage matches power on the ECU when checked with my digital volt meter. The boat runs great so I'll just keep looking.

Hey Pat,

If all your seeing is dashes, it means the transducer is not reading. If you see flashing numbers, it means the transducer is working but cannot get a good reading.

Since the problem comes and goes I would check the connections behind the dash at the sonar.

Thanks,
-Kenny
