How is this accomplished? Can it be done from the exterior if the boat is hauled? Someone has suggested that we need to remove the rear fuel tank. Are there any upgrades so that I should consider replacing the entire unit on my 2011 Ranger? Also have I omitted any questions I should ask about this issue?

Thanks Doug Baily

ps see you at the Rondy

The boat can stay in the water. To get to the shear pin you have to remove the motor housing. Disconnect your electric supply and remove the two hex bolts and the unit can then be jostled out. I have removed one from a 2011 a while back and removal of the tank was not required.

I have changed mine many times with the fuel tank in place. I found if I loosen the tank and slide it as far over as I can and remove the wash down pump that is in the way (on mine anyways) it is somewhat easier to access .. it is still a tight fit. I have spun the rear tank and that gave a lot more room, but in the end just moving it as far to starboard as possible was enough.
Pay attention to the positioning of the retaining spring washer as it is important to put in back in the same position to keep the shear pin from moving.
Good luck ..

All very good replies. If you find yourself still having difficulty replacing the sheer pin please give us a call at the office at (253) 839-5213.

Thanks,
