We are look for good ideas for mounting fire extinguishers. Location and method. Include photos if possible - thanks!

I have no photo's but we mounted 2 of the 3 extinguishers that came with our R29S. Mounted one behind the stateroom tv on the wood panel the tv is mounted to. We also mounted one in the cave next to the electric panel. Struggling as to where to mount the third.

On my R-27/OB I need to have at least two Fire Extinguishers to meet USCG regs. It maybe I need a 3rd but I'm unsure about that.

1) I have one attached at a slight angle immediately aft of the port side porthole above the galley sink.

2) I have one attached to the transom port side corner so that it does not interfere with the folding double wide seat nor raising the port side cockpit locker lid. I chose this location as we have the transom mounted electric grill and that can/could pose a fire hazard one day maybe. It also good to have a fire extinguisher outside of the cabin.

3) If needed a 3rd one could be located in the cave similar to what Jim Favors has done.

I also have a fire blanket package near to the propane stove to snuff out any stove flame ups etc.

Be sure to check the units for the needle being in the green zone each year and date the inspection on the units inspection tag as the USCG likes to see the fire extinguishers being monitored. 🙂 You'll get brownie points for doing that.

The important thing is to locate the fire extinguishers in a place that makes them readily accessible.

Jim: You need to add two more wheels to your signature "TRAWLER LiFE".... The R-29S will be too wobbly on a single axle. 😱

When mounting an extinguisher in the galley area, consider whether it could still be accessed in case of a stove fire. Also, I keep a fire blanket in the area that can be grabbed and thrown over a stove fire. They are not very expensive and never expire!

Thanks Sue for the fire blanket idea, a great safety addition to any boat.

One in the "v-berth" to grab if sleeping.

one under the sink for access to a cooking fire

one under the eletrical panel in the "cave"
