Hi All,

I am in the process of ordering a new 2018 CB R-31. We have 2 options of privacy covers for all the windows, canvas or a porous nylon type material that allows you to have privacy, but still allows light to come through. What are your suggestions or experiences. Thanks

We have all of our windows tinted (except the windshield/money well spent) and utilize the interior curtains rather than climbing around snapping on material to the outside. We do have the canvass, but never used it. I made an interior curtain for the windshield that slides on a track (sailrite.com) in two pieces and made two small curtains from the same material for the aft cabin window that velcro to the inside. Both very simple to install. The windshield curtain stores to the port and starboard side of the windshield or both pieces can move to either side. The two small rear window curtains roll up for easy storage. We do utilize the interior cockpit door canvass on occasion. (Only because I haven't gotten around to making it with the matching material.) I am going to make cockpit sunshades from the Phifertex material over the winter to hang from the hardtop.

My two cents worth,

Al Sr.

Get both types. That's what I did. 😀

We have Phifertex and find it useless. Cant see out at night, but people on dock can see in. Pat made curtains for front windows, mounted with small 3m removable hooks. Did same for rear door and windows. Someday we will purchase material matching side curtains. I also made insulating panels for hatches and windshields from 1/2" styrofoam. cut to fit, foil out to reflect sun, plastic backed, made edge bindings from package sealing tape. Light, small, on hatches replace screens, held by canvas, windshield friction fit. Really helps with Florida heat when docked.

We love our Phifertex on the front windshield when bow in in a slip. If the interior lights are not on it is very difficult for someone to see anything inside the boat, it blocks a lot of sunlight and heat and we find you can see out fairly well. I actually put the panel on our rear window when we bought the boat in 2015 and have not taken it off since. I find I can see out just fine and it eliminates some of the sunlight heat. We have a solid Sunbrella cover for the front windshield that is padded with a soft fabric for protection when we travel down the highway. After the first season I learned I did not want to wash the bugs off the windshield before launching the boat after our 200 mile plus trips to the lake.

We are the second owners of our boat. The original owner was in South Carolina and we are in Maryland. The window tinting is one of my favorite things about the boat. You cannot see into the boat during the daylight. It keeps a lot of sun heat out. You can barely see inside even at night.

I cannot figure out how to insert the photo for the life of me. It is in our photo album though.
