What are the thru-hull sizes on the R-31 (engine cooling and raw-water washdown)? Ordering emergency plugs; a friend of mine had an "incident" recently that reminded me it would be a good idea to have them aboard!

Hi FlyMeAway,

The best thing to do is to measure the through hulls that you are concerned with by using a caliper for the hole that you are expecting if something goes wrong. However, you only need an approximate size. The majority of safety plugs are all tapered for two reasons: so that they can accommodate a range of possible holes, and so that they can be driven in tight when needed. On that note, make sure you have a rubber mallet close at hand, should you need to use one of the plugs. Let's hope it does not come to that. 😉

Cheers,

Ralf

Flymeaway, if you get the expandable plugs for winterizing pools and spas, they will work great. They expand with a twist of a wing nut, no need to carry a mallet unless it's to correct a crew member!
They are sold at most large hardware stores, swimming pool supply stores and can be order on line (Amazon) the cost is about $2 each comes in various sizes. Bob

Correction: after looking up on Amazon they are priced between $4.50 and $5.00 inflation?
