Last fall was my first winterization with our 2010 21-EC. I noticed after removing the AC batteries that the battery box was broke loose from the mounting screws. I removed the battery box and found a 10” crack in the fiberglass under the battery box. I currently have the Tug at a fiberglass boat repair shop. The owner says he feels the crack was due to trailering and not boating. He feels the fiberglass is too thin to support the two AC batteries. He is going to add a thin piece of aluminum, ½” piece of composite, and then lay some fiberglass over the top as a fix.

Have others run into this problem?

Oucheeee... hopefully that crack was not the hull proper ? The batteries have to be quite a load. I have 4 in our 2010 R-25 and will examine things later on. We do not trailer our boat... at least not so far! Thanks for the heads-up.

I have the A/C batteries installed on my R21-EC as an additional set of house batteries. Last year I removed the two type 24 batteries and installed two golf cart batteries and gained a whole bunch of amps doing it. The golf cart batteries are slightly bigger than the type 24's, so I had to remove the "battery box" (battery tray) to modify it. I removed the lip on the outboard side of the tray and the new batteries fit perfect.

I did not notice any cracks in the false floor when I had everything out. I did notice that there was not any weep holes in the false floor, and any water that got in there did not drain out. I drilled a couple of 3/8" holes in the false floor and fixed that problem.
