I have a 2014 R21-EC which has the D1-30 Volvo Penta engine. I plan on inspecting the heat exchanger and was wondering if anyone has done it on this particular engine? If yes did you just remove the two end plates and look through the core/insert for corrosion/buildup or remove the insert itself for a more detailed inspection? Is the insert easily removed or do you need special tools?
Also, I am getting some minor leakage around the cover plate over the thermostat that appears to be like a "gray pasty" substance. When reading the work shop manual, it states that there is a wax component as part of the thermostat that expands when engine heats up and opens the thermostat ,so I was wondering if it's possible that the thermostat has a problem and the substance I'm seeing is this wax material. Has anyone encountered this or have some thoughts on what I may be seeing?
I plan on checking the exhaust riser at the same time so any comments on precautions that I should be taking during these DIY projects would be greatly appreciated.
