Hi All,

For those of you who do not have a garage large enuff to handle the R21 EC (wouldn't that be a sweet garage!?), how do you store it?

Under a tarp?

Custom made storage cover?

Parked outside on trailer with no cover? Without a self bailing cockpit, do you rely on the bilge pump to remove rain water?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

It seems that getting the boat was the easy task. I have a new 13 x 28 concrete pad to store the boat on, and am designing a post and beam drive-through boat shed to keep the boat under. The alternative might be a metal building that is lots less aesthetically pleasing, but less bucks. Hope to have one of the two built before winter arrives. In the past, with a series of sailboats, I carefully measured and sewed up fitted, reinforced covers from the heaviest duty tarps that I could find. If fitted properly and secured with many bungees, they did not flap in the wind and lasted up to six-seven years, and provided excellent protection at a fraction of the cost of a custom canvas cover. The ideal solution would be if my neighbor sold his boat and let me park mine on the lift in the boathouse...........not happening, though.

Hello Dan,

My 21EC lives on her trailer.

Initially, she sat outside under a tarp. I bought cheapo 20' x 30' tarp. My boat had the now-no-longer-available surrey top, so with the tarp draped over that, climbing in/out via the swim step was simple. I bought a bunch of bottle cap hooks like this

and crewed those onto 16 oz soda bottles ½ - ¾ full of water. Anyway, distribute those around the perimeter of the tarp and let the bottles hang down between the hull and the trailer frame...it works well and is much easier than tying it down.

Presently, I have a shelter the boat sits under. That's the way to go...unless you can get it INDOORS.

.. if snow or heavy rain is an issue where you live, you might try lashing a 2x4', on edge, to the centre the roof and over the engine box.. I tied the engine box upright with the 2x4 overhanging the stern .. do the same at the centre of the roof, forward to the bow rail... make sure that there are no low spot tips, as the rain or snow will accumulate and cause havoc.. use some cord from the 2x4 to the railings to make a tent .. I used DRZ-Air in the cabin and kept everything closed tight ... remember to drain and add more crystal every 2 or 3 weeks .. tie the tarp so there is some air circulation coming thru where the tarp covered the bow and could exit the stern.. put an ice cream bucket or what have you over spotlight or air horns .. just had some minor green mold on the floor aft where the tarp had a drip hole .. remember to pull your bilge plug ..

Thanks all....

I have a nice secure and open (no trees to drop crud on the boat) place to store my hopefully soon to be R21. However, I want to make sure it looks great for years to come. So I appreciate the input on how you store yours.
