Hi folks,

I'm new to your group and as as an ex-sailor, the R21 Ec has caught my attention. I'm looking for a pocket cruiser that I can trailer and keep in my yard in the off-season. I live on the Ct shore on Long Island Sound and would love to see one of these boats up close if there is one anywhere in my vicinity or even RI willing to help. Also looking for opinions as to whether the 21 is big enough for a couple to make up to 5-7 day cruises on. I realize this is all relative. We've done it on a 19 ft sailboat as well as a 39. In the pics I've seen, I see little or no space to store personal gear on the 21. Lastly, as far as seaworthiness, how will the 21 do in 2-3 foot chop which is not unusual for The Sound. Thanks to all.

Good morning Ahab,

Going out for 5 days or so is very easy to do, it all depends on your level of confort. We are going out for 14 days, the dinghy, outboard motor, ice chest, garden chairs and we still have room to store stuff under the bed. This boat will handle 2-3 foot quite good. See my video in the facebook tugnuts page, I am in a 5-6 feet chop. There is a boat show in RI in September, and one in CT as well, maybe the 21ec will be on display, you might wanna look on the ranger tug website for more info.

Contact Peter at Winter Island in MA http://www.wiyy.net/
Peter may be able to contact someone for you to check out their boat. I only know of one 21' in RI.
The Newport Boat Show is Sept 15 -18, ask Peter if he will be there with a 21.

It is a very nice boat and is what attracted us to Ranger Tugs but in my opinion is no way an extended stay boat. Very sea worthy.

Check out this site "Rangers for Sale".

Many thanks to all who responded. It turns out there will be a 21 at the Newport show. For those who have the full cover and enclosure on the 21 can you give me a rough idea of cost?

King Marine Canvas (Seattle) http://kingmarinecanvas.com/rangerboats.html
Top $2400
Full enclosure $2600

I negotiated a nice discount on my R-21EC from the factory. The above prices were list prices, so there's some discounting available which could be as much as $1000 for the combo of Top + Full Enclosure.

My 2014 21EC came with the bimini from the factory and was included in the optional equipment price. I subsequently ordered a full enclosure with 040GA Crystal Clear, from King Marine, at a cost of $3900 (!!!), without tax. I don't know what the big difference in price could be between my full enclosure and Laxey's. For my enclosure, all panels could be rolled up (or removed by unzipping, of course). The two panels immediately behind the cabin door on either side also had a screen for either bug control (not often needed here in the NW) or air flow, which could also be rolled up or removed. The aft middle section also had a screen. Privacy curtains for the front cabin windows- one set mesh for daytime and one set Sunbrella for nighttime, were an extra $450, without tax.

Last month I traded my 212EC for a new 25SC. I subsequently ordered a full enclosure from King Marine (the bimini top came from the factory). I think the price for a 25SC enclosure is too high.

FYI, as far as I know, my lovely 21EC may still be for sale at the factory, as beautiful as the day I got her. 21's are great, but the cabin is not roomy. In my opinion, she is not the best boat for a couple unless you are both small and sleep all night through.
