Andrew,
I feel bad posting for complaints about the Air Conditioning systems on Ranger Tugs.
I have a “gripe” problem when I am frustrated. If my tone offended you, or other readers, I apologize.
I need to upgrade my present setup. I do not expect Ranger to pay for modifications to improve performance above factory specifications.
I want the ability to run my 120v A/C while under way and at Marinas during overnight stays while traveling the ICW waterway. I want to modify in a way that does not void any warranties.
The alternator and charger are not large enough to put out the amps to run the A/C. Using a professional amp meter the amp draw into the inverter is 62 amps. The alternator is putting out 40 to 45 amps (has it gone bad?) and the battery charger is a Pro Mariner Pro Nautic 20 amp.
Would it be safe for all systems to upgrade to a 60 amp Pro Nautic? This would give me the amps I need if it is ok to run the charger under load. Shore power straight to the A/C with a switch use the inverter while cruising may be a good setup also, but I lack the knowledge to install one safely.
I sure could use some help on this. I sent an E-mail to my dealer four days ago and no reply as of today.
Will you get the guys in the factory shop scratching their heads on this one?
My hull number is: US-FMLT2112H213
I think they should have records of everything installed and how the boat was shipped.
I should have posted this on "Ask the Ranger Factory"......oops 😀

PM me if you prefer.
Thanks.

As someone who is considering a Ranger Tug 21EC and who lives in Muggy/Hot Maryland...I am also interested in the A/C on the 21 and your comments. My ideal solution would be an AC that always works while underway (for any period of time), while on shore power or while connected to a little portable generator such as the Honda 2000 whilst on the hook. Please keep us posted as to what you find out as it will make a difference as to what boat and brand we purchase. My wife thanks you! ;-)

Mike

I was never offended just prefer a phone call to the dealer or us to see how we can accommodate your needs. Sometimes emails or posts can be taken wrong so I try not to read them in a negative manor. I would be more than happy to answer all of your questions and give you ideas on how to change if you would like to call me direct. I will be in the office tomorrow if that works for you.

253-839-5213.

Thank you,

Andrew Custis
