I could’ve sworn i’ve seen someone alter the center windshield in their 21’....creating a “flip up” safari window. Trying to get more airflow on warm days. Anyone done this? If not, any decent 12v fan recommendations?

You might want to check with Diamond/Seaglaze and ask for a hatch window for replacement on your boat there phone number (800) 770-0455 or contact via internet. That is the manufacturer of the Windows on my 2009 R-21. As far as a fan lots of them on the web/amazon for less than $20, I went with a double 360 degree model, it's great for a defroster too, a photo of fan install is in my photo album. Bob

Some of the 21 Classics came with a tilt-out center window. When we committed to buying our 21EC at the ‘15 Miami Boat Show, I remember asking Jeff if an operable center window could be fitted (we live in toasty Oklahoma). Before the question was completely out of my mouth, the answer was “No!” I still chuckle to myself about it. I pondered the matter for several years and finally took the plunge during last off-season. I hinged the window at the bottom so it lays down on top of the berth hatch and secure with a bungee so it doesn’t bounce around. You lose the center wiper, of course, but the motor was a head-knocker for me anyway. Without sounding like a master-craftsman (hopefully), I have to say this was a VERY involved mod and not for the casual DIYer. The boat doesn’t go fast enough to generate much breeze thru the cabin, but anything helps in our climate. It DOES give a very nice feeling of openness, however. I have also installed two different fans, which I like: a Caframo Bora and Ultimate.

I checked with D/S at the time. They can build a single-hung unit resulting in approximately one-half open area, although with a noticeably “thicker” frame, and the wiper wouldn’t function. It was about $1000 crated/shipped.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like i’ll just look into a nice 12v fan instead. I’d hate to spend all that money when in realization that with slow cruising i probably won’t get much airflow as stated...lol

For our Atlas Acadia 25, it came with a center flip-up center windshield and it really helps. We modified it so it goes completely horizontal for max air flow.

But if modifying yours is not an option, for a fan, we have never found any of the 12 volt fans to be useful. Not enough air flow. We bought two of those large size "Fan-Tastic" 12 volt box fans and they do push more air but are very very loud.

My suggestion is to get a small 110 volt inverter, maybe about 2500 watts and use a 110 volt house fan. They are going to be very quiet and will push lots more air than any of the smaller 12 volt fans. Be sure to check the air flow rating. By one, take it home and try it out for air flow. We have used a full size 20" box fan from an inverter while moored to keep cool, plus keep the bugs off in the past. Just size the inverter, plus 50% to match the needs of the fan.

Also, if you want to stay with 12 volt, consider a truck, RV or bus fan. They are usually chrome plated metal (you can paint them for the marine environment) but are meant to provide much more air flow than the typical marine fan. I've got one right at my pilot station on the boat. Lots of them on Amazon but be sure to read the reviews.
