Anyone know if the teak cupholders on the engine cover can be removed easily? How about the entry steps on the sides as well. Looking to remove them to freshen up. Thanks for your time.

I have not removed mine, I clean and use teak wood oil twice a year. But I'm the kind of guy that likes the rustic look, my boat is a working boat that looks cute!

Previous owner did a SLOPPY job of applying a clearcoat to them....wanting to start fresh again....lol

Steps are hard to remove, there are teak bungs that cover the screws. You will need to cut them out and get replacements.
The engine box cup holder is a bit easier. Remover the cover and from the under side cut away the silver insulation and you will see the screws. You will need to replace the insulation.

I am in the process of doing mine. I pulled the ones off on the sides and have completed them. I was waiting for a little warmer and drier weather to do the center one, which I will mask off with blue tape and then go to it. Spend some time on the masking as a good mask job with result in a nice looking finish job. I may pull the door at the same time and do it with it laying across saw horses (with a good mask job).

PS. I have removed teak bungs on wood work before almost always have had to replace the bungs due to the old ones getting buggered in the removal process. I keep teak on hand and have plug cutters because of this. Also, I like penetrating finishes and don't use stuff that just lays on the wood (ie, Cetol).

Thanks for all the help. I’ll be studying the sides and engine cup holder removal today!

I use semco oil and it works fine.

I don’t remove any teak. Every few months just apply teak oil. That is for steps, cup holders, sliding door window, etc in cockpit. If teak looking a little marked or dried out give it a light sand. Masking tape is good to ensure white gelcoat protected. I apply teak oil on teak inside cabin once a year but not as important. All successful. The key is regular application of teak oil or similar. Nothing else.
