I have some questions about my "new to me" 2017 R21-ec Northwest edition with the Yanmar engine and Garmin 741xs chart plotter. I am hoping some of you can tell me what is normal or not normal and what you might suggest:

1. The depth does not display on the Garmin. Just dashes.

2. The Yanmar display does not have readings for Temperature or Oil Pressure. I don't know if this is normal or not. Engine hours and Backlight percent do display.

3. The Yanmar display shows battery voltage. I don't know if this is the engine battery or the house battery or if there is a way to show both? It started at 14.0 volts and ended at 12.9 volts a couple of hours later, despite the engine running the entire time. Is this drop normal?

4. I did not find any engine or battery information on the Garmin. Should this info show up somewhere?

Thanks for the support!
Mike

14V is normal charging voltage; 12.9v would indicate a very well charged battery with the engine off. Should be higher than that (i.e., 14+) with engine running.

Mike, to answer your questions, 1. You have a problem with the transducer check to see that it is attached and full of fluid to start with, it should be in the bilge below the power shut off to the bow thruster. 2. No gauges just idiot lights and warning sound. 3. Only engine battery, you can display the house battery on the Garmin. And 4. No!
Hope this helps. Bob

Thank you! This is what I needed to know.
It sounds like everything is "normal" except the transducer.
I will check it out next time I am at the boat.

Hey Mike. Here’s another point to think about the depth reading. When we had our R-21EC going from a muddy bottom to sandy bottom would interfere with the depth reading and you’d get no reading. Check your transducer as mentioned but most of all enjoy your boat. We ran aground many a time trying to ease into small coves. The great thing about an R-21 is you can usually just hop off and push.
Cheers

Thank you.
That sounds like good advice.
The only difference here would be the treatment for hypothermia after hopping in!
Have a great day.
