R21ec rear enclosure

Can we get get some details on this excellent rear enclosure?

How was it done? by who (whom?)? approx cost? etc,,,
I looks fantastic and the fit and finish appear to be exceptional.

I took this photo at Bremerton Marina at the rendezvous and the skipper of the R21 was named Rudy. The cost was reported close to $5k and the one-of-a-kind enclosure was built by the same outfit who does the covers for Ranger Tug. That's all I know.

It was done by the same company that makes the bimini covers for the other Ranger tugs. The railing system that supports this is quite elaborate. Total cost was about $5K.

The owner, Rudy, gave me the above info at the Rendezvous. He bought the R-21 EC about a month ago. In addition to the cover and clear plastic sides, he also has rechanneled runoff water from the roof down into the gunnel area where it joins runoff water from the bow and gets channeled overboard. That allows him to ensure the cockpit remains dry; he has installed carpet through the cockpit.

The end result looks like an Arizona Room over the cockpit. Rudy still manages to use the back of the cockpit for fishing, with two poleholders mounted on the railings.

I took a detailed look at Rudy's run-off modifications. Look at the excellent pix in dloop's link above for references.

1. The existing channel is behind the red "eyebrow" of the pilothouse, as well as the green navigational light. It also runs behind the antenna and the horizontal handrail before emptying water into the cockpit.

2. Rudy has placed plastic "dams" at the end of each channel so the water no longer spills into the cockpit.

3. About two inches from the end of the channel he drilled a hole into which he put a short plastic/rubber tube. Look at the picture above, enlarge it, and you will see the tube protruding from the side of the pilothouse under the left end of the handrail.

4. The water that normally flows into the cockpit is stopped by the dam. It is then forced out the tube and down the side of the pilothouse where it mixes with the water from the bow being transported along the foot-wide channel next to the gunnel. All of the water, then, gets shipped overboard and none of it gets inside the cockpit.

The first R-21 EC I saw had the complete rear enclosure for the cockpit. It was the factory available option, installed on a 2008 model that I was considering buying.

It is still available as an option. The sides and back portion are $3800. The surrey top is required at $2150 for a total of $5950. :shock:

wow! I paid half that for two 20' X 13', powered, retractable, patio covers with remote control 😱 !

Given my budget, maybe I'll by some of those big golf umbrellas and hand them out to my passengers.

Red Ranger - thanks for the details as to the run off mods. That has been a concern of mine as well, and you've offered some hope for a solution. (and thanks Rudy, if you're out there!)
