R21ec Rudder Angle Indicator

I added a rudder angle indicator to my 2015 R21ec. Works great! I posted 3 pictures to my album under modifications, if any are interested.

Ohioan-55, you must be great at working upside down in tight spaces! Great job on the angle indicator, it looks like you did this upgrade by the book. When I did this modification on my boat I cheated and hooked it to the back of the steering cable in the cabin, photos in my album,l same outcome!

Being an ex-submariner, I know how to do stuff in tight spaces (and upside down) 😀

Ohioan55, Very nice! I have thought about this for my R21...what was the install time? I'm leery of any projects that might waste summer boating hours. May try this over the winter. I'm also thinking about an autopilot, but I'm concerned about how much space under the helm it takes. At any rate, great job!

The hardest part is figuring out what parts I needed. The arm off the rudder post I made from 1/2" x 3/16" stainless bar, heated to put a 90 degree twist in it. The gauge and sensor were bought as a kit, and the linkage ball joints are RC hobby parts with a stainless M4 threaded rod, plus some stainless screws/washers on each end.

And then there's this, for a foolproof, infinitely correctable, cheap and easily installable rudder position indicator. I cut a 2" circle out of a 2" strip of Velcro to mount it.
