2011 model R21EC with Yanmar 3YM30;

-When i replace the tachometer, will the engine hours start at zero or is the correct figure stored stored on another chip somewhere?
-If it starts at zero, is there a way to change it to what it should be?
-When I replace the tach, is there any other digital magic that has to happen? coding it to the engine or some such?

Thanks

The tachometer on the 3YM30 Yanmar is fed from the alternator there is a setting on the back you can adjust to match up to your unit. Instructions should come with the new tac but if not it is available on line. As far as the hour reading, I'm unaware of any way to change. Bob

Edit: you can increase the hours on a new unit, depending on the unit, some are as simple as attaching to a power source and others require a signal generator ( cheep ones can be purchased for less than $20) lots of good information on the web just look up changing hours on a new hour meager

thanks Bob, I'll do some more research
