R23 air conditioning

Hi all,
Spent some hot and humid nights aboard recently and would prefer not to repeat. Boat has Webasto heat but no A/C. What are some solutions I may consider. Evap coolers or misters don’t work in humid environment. What about hatch units like RV’s. Don’t want to make pristine boat look foolish.

Here’s one possible solution if you have a raw water thruhull and you don’t want to drill another hole in your boat. You should be able to use this thruhull for an AC water intake. My AC thruhull has a scoop so you can run the AC while underway. The raw water thruhull doesn’t but it should pick up water while stationary. I only run my AC when stopped. I don’t have a heater so I don’t know where the heater is located but our AC unit is under the forward port seat behind the microwave. You can buy an AC kit and install it in this area. You’d have to install an AC water pump in the center lazaret and connect this to the raw water intake then run hose to the unit but that shouldn’t be too difficult. There’s power available where the microwave is plugged in. You should be able to connect the AC discharge hose to the shower or sink drain. I installed an AC on my R-21EC. Hope this gives you something to think about.

Thank you Capt Karl! Much to consider. I don’t trust my ability to tackle this job, so may have to look for assistance, but don’t want to spend the nearly 6k a dealer estimated!!

On my R-23, the control panel box (brains) for the A/C is sandwiched in the gunwale at the aft dinette seat. Very hard to access. Not sure when it is installed in the build process, but not a lot of room to even get the front panel off.
