Still thinking??
Having probelms with the Garmin Autopilot on my 2018 R23.
Took the boat out last week and noticed the bearing of the boat on screen for some reason had gone well out of sync.
The on screen had the boat pointed almost 170* out.
Could this be because the battery had run flat and the system rebooted? (Another issue/question for later)
I now need to run the dockside recalibraton and seatrial to reset is that correct?
It's asking the following questions, could someone advise the correct inputs for this please?
Vessel type - Power planing or Power displacement?
Lock to Lock?
Helm Displacement?
Speed source? Tachometer or GPS?
Planing RPM?
Low RPM limit?
High RPM limit?
Planing speed?
Rudder gains? Low & high speed %? And counter %?
Acceleration limiter %?

This is all brand new to me!

Second question....I left the boat plugged in to shore power, all switched correctly, battery charger off.
Only thing on was the fridge....and the house battery went flat. Should this happen?
Should I be leaving the battery charger on when the fridge is on?

Thanks for any help!

About battery charger... I leave my battery charger breaker switch ON all the time; when on shore power and when out cruising. I do this as it just too easy to forget to turn the battery charger breaker switch ON when dock and on shore power. It does no harm leaving the battery charge breaker switch ON all the time.

For me, I only connect to shore power once per week for 24 hrs at a time. I have all electrical devices OFF inside/outside the boat when I dock. The batteries have never failed using this technique and the 24 hr charge cycle once per week keeps the batteries charged up.... plus I do have a solar panel but as boat is docked in a covered slip I can't rely on the solar for charging batteries. I do this once/week cycle to minimize the underwater zinc erosion which appear to be sacrificed a great deal more with the boat on shore power 100% of the time. My diver service has indicated my procedure is very effective and zinc replacements have gone from every 3 months, to every 4 months and now every 6 months.... and suspect this 6 months will be even greater. I keep my boat in salt water 100% of the time.

Before going to the trouble of running the wizard, I would suggest shutting off all power to the Garmin (at the main house switch) and letting it sit for 5 minutes before re-booting. This method was suggested to me by RT and has (temporarily) solved this problem for me many times.

Any advice on the helm displacement setting? Or where I can find it?
Thanks

Any time I have an auto pilot issue, I run a gArmin software update. Even re-running the current version resolves any issues (sometimes it would hold a course but not follow a route). SD card is much faster than by active captain connection.

hello,

here is my response below. what I will check first before doing this recalibration will be your software update version. the most current version right now for the 7600 series Garmin system is 12.00 and has a date of 6-11-18. can you verify?

Vessel type - Power planing or Power displacement? your vessel is a power planning hull.
Lock to Lock? you should count the turns left to right till it locks to know how many turns it takes. it's usually around 4.8 turns each way from STBD to PORT.
Helm Displacement?
Speed source? Tachometer or GPS? the speed should be GPS
Planing RPM? I enter 3800 RPM
Low RPM limit? 1000 RPM
High RPM limit? if you have a Yamaha your limit RPM should be 6000.
Planing speed? 25 miles
Rudder gains? Low & high speed %? And counter %?
Acceleration limiter %? not sure where you see this?

thank you,
