Good Afternoon All,

Our new-to-us R23 diesel should be arriving later this week. I have been working through the numbers with underway air.

A few notes about the R23D:
1) It has a 140 Amp Alternator
2) new AGM batteries

Not looking to run AC at anchorage, just underway

First I was working up the diagrams for a Lithium Upgrade. However, Looking at the numbers, I think it might work with the AGM batteries. Once the AC is started, the alternator should provide the majority of the power. Should not deplete the AGM batteries too much.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Dan

P.S. Before I do the whole Lithium upgrade, I figure it is worth a try.

My A/C uses about 90A. With 400Ah of LiFePO4, I have about 5 hours of A/c while underway using 90% of that capacity and alternator/solar charging.

Thanks.

That is about what I was thinking.

Saying, on average, my 140 Amp Alternator, puts out about 100 Amps. Maybe 30 Amps to run the electronics. This leaves about 70 for the AC. So to get to the 90 Amp average draw, I will drain 20 AH from the batteries. Two 100 AH AGM batteries are in the boat. If I only want to take them down to 50% SOC, that leaves about 100 AH of useful energy. Or about 5 hours of AC run time.

Some references say AGMs can be taken down to 20% SOC. This would give me another 60 AH to use. Or3 hours of runtime.

Could even add another AGM Battery.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Dan
