I plan on installing a galvanic isolator on our R23. We have outboard so would be easy to place in the "engine" compartment. Where do you recommend installing? Do you have photos of any the factory has installed?

Reopening this question - it doesn’t appear to have been answered. I am in the same situation and looking for guidance on location in a R23. Is there an available wiring diagram for the shore power connection to panel?

Thanks

I would install it as close to the A.C. panel or the terminals of the shore power cord socket. I am talking about the back side of the socket where the wires go back to the AC panel. Really any where in between the socket and the panel would work. You are just cutting the ground wire from the panel to the socket and attaching both ends to the isolator.

Thanks iggy,

I understand the placement issue, however, there is not a lot of available space in the R23. Just wondering where others have been able to find room without relocating bundles of wires, and still be able to intercept the ground wire.

I'm not familiar with the location of the ELCI on the R23. Installation of the galvanic isolator near the ELCI is a good location. Why? Because this is the first connection splice of the shore power boat cable. The Black hot, White neutral are connected to the ELCI at shore power side of ELCI and then the boat cable is connected to the ELCI on the Breaker panel side of the ELCI. The Green Ground will be connected to a terminal strip there or terminal connector. This is a great place to tie in the galvanic isolator. Making the connection at this location elevates additional splices for the install.

Photo of my install at ELCI location I made no cuts or splices to the shore power cable.
