Folks with R23s, what have you been using for a spotlight at night? We want to get one, but can't decide between just a handheld or one we mount. Thanks.

I’ve not found a need for a spotlight at night. What do you intend to use it for?

I use a SiOnyx camera for night vision.

Help navigating creeks, buoys, crab pots, etc. We are in the Chesapeake Bay and are doing more nighttime navigating into creeks for anchoring on overnight trips. Thinking just a good hand-held will do. I'll check out your link. Thanks!

There are currently two other threads active here about spotlights. My experience with boat mounted lights is negative...the potential glare messes up night vision. No doubt theSiOnyx night vision cams are great. If you still find a need for a light, look at the MarineBeam that Jim recommended. MarineBeam also makes a tubular handheld spot that uses d-cells and has great run time....I plan on picking up one of those.

Thanks folks. While the night vision camera looks awesome, it was too pricey for what we need. I went ahead and ordered the MarineBeam spotlight. Appreciate the responses and other threads.

On our R-27 and a Kadey Krogen 39 pilothouse trawler, we use a handheld spotlight that is rechargeable and comes with a power cord for continuous use. Works fine for us because running at night in close quarters is only occasionally done and we run slow, at the same speed we run in fog. Natural night vision is way better for us than a lot of light.
