Hi Folks
So after many a night sleeping in are R23 I'm pretty convinced that we should just set the V-berth up for sleeping only. In the last year+ of owning this boat we have never used the table for anything but sleeping (and maybe a bit of lounging). So my next question is what to do to make the bed more comfy and useable. It's a little tricky due to the cushions being used to cover the storage areas. Any good Ideas out there. I'll def be thinking on it.

We bought a King Sized Mattress pad and cover. I cut the pad down to fit the berth using an electric carving knife. That pattern was made simply by taping brown shipping paper strips together and then using a sharpie around the edges.

After that I cut the cover apart at the seams and then keeping the original zipper intact, cut the cover to match the pad and sewed it back up.

The whole thing is easily flipped over itself, taco like, to one side or the other to allow access to the storage underneath.

It took a bit of time and effort but is well worth it. If you keep your seams on the bottom side of the cover know one sees them and the job looks awesome.

I did as Jim says with the mattress topper as well, and used the carving knife. We have an R-27 so we took each of the cushions home, traced with a sharpie, and then cut each individual cushion shape (made them slightly smaller to account for sheets)

This makes it easier to get into the storage compartments. We also use 3 double sheet sets. So 1 Fitted sheet goes around the port cushion, 1 around the Center 3, and 1 around the starboard cushion.

This has made the bed infinitely more comfortable to sleep on and still allows us to pick which configuration we want the cushions in or maintain easy access to the under storage. We leave it in the bed configuration pretty much all season long as it also doubles as a hangout/tv lounge.

Interesting thought, cutting the pads to match the cushions. I am going to keep that in my back pocket in case it gets to be a pain the way it is. It would also make putting the sheets on that much easier ;-)

I have an R-27 classic, but similar application. I cut individual topper pads to match each cushion. I went one step further and made individual fitted sheets for each section.

thanks for the ideas. sounds like you are all going on top of existing seating cushions. i'll give that a shot, thx!

There is a table? Had our R23 for a little over a year and we have never taking the table leg out of storage. We spread a sleeping bag flat on top of the cushions and then when we get up it rolls up nicely and stores out of the way. If you get a "fat bag" with a full zipper it works great. It is also handy on those nights when you set the AC too low and wake up freezing!
