After a few time hand pulling up 200' of anchor line on a pitching deck I decided to install a Lewmar V700 windlass. It's very low profile and I like how it holds the anchor tight with no rattling about.
Mounted a hand controller up in anchor locker and used the existing windlass switch on dashboard for control at helm.
More pic's in my album.

Nice work... well done.

Just in case the windless misbehaves in a rough sea or any other condition and allows the anchor to suddenly deploy it's best to secure one of the chain links to a static piece of the boat such as the center bow cleat with a small diameter line. A good safety precaution IMO.

Good tip! thanks

It looks great - I would prefer it to the Lewmar 550 that came with our R23 package. First use this weekend - no easy way to free-fall, and when we blew the breaker when I held the helm control on a touch too long (the anchor was lodged), we realized that there's no manual recovery (well, there was my husband, who probably doesn't like to be called "manual recovery").

Now, I've always had a cleat to tie off the anchor line when on the hook, but I notice that many of the Rangers rely on the windlass to hold the line. Maybe power boaters are more trusting in their windlass? 😀 My fat-bottomed sailboat put a lot more strain on the line and I would always cleat off the rode.

Yeah. Anything over a quick lunch stop and I use a dynema sling autoblocked onto the anchor rode. Super quick and easy.

Do tell - how do you configure this?

Sorry for the delay getting back. I use a nylon climbing sling with a autoblock knot. It is super quick to set up.
