Good Morning All,

Our "new to us" Ranger R23 Diesel has a 180 Amp alternator.

Does any body have a feel for what percent of the 180 Amps is put out at idle? How about mid RPM, like 2K?

Figured there must be some "rule of thumb" to get an approximation.

Asking because I want to install an inverter to run the AC/Heat while underway.

Thanks
Dan

Could you confirm which engine you have please? Is it the Volvo Penta D3?

Yes it is. Volvo Penta D3 170 HP.

One of only 5 R23s were built with the Volvo Penta Sterndrive.

This is useful. It does get me in the ballpark. It looks like I might get by, at mid RPMs, getting close to running the AC/Heat without much battery assist.

While the R23 OB is certainly quieter, it is nice to have this large alternator.
