The wipers appear to not have enough spring pressure to remove any spray or rain. The one on the port side barely touches the window. Is there a way to slightly shorten the spring on the wiper to increase the pressure? I tried cleaning and apply some wd 40 to the hinges but still have the problem. Maybe actually bending the arm slightly might work.

Bending the arms inward works for me, but even in the best of circumstances the effectiveness of the wipers is inadequate.

What works best for me when spray is hitting the windshield is a couple coats of carefully applied Rain-X that was put on BEFORE the cruise.

You can also try ceramic coating which I've found to works well. I've used NexGen. GF

Part of the culprit is the plastic covers at the knuckle at the top where the arm attaches to the motor pivot. Salt water leaves deposits in between the spaces and then things build up. I replaced my arms and removed the plastic caps. I apply corrosion block regularly and also rinse them down with fresh water. It makes a great improvement. Also applying Rain-x is somewhat better than the wipers.

I turn on my wipers once a year to make sure they still work. Never use them underway. Rain-x only. I do exercise the springs and hinges regularly when I install and remove the front windscreen cover. All of my plastic covers for the hinges have long been removed.

We have repositioned the wipers on the windows so that the wipers rest on the glass and not on the rubber surround gasket. This involves taking the wiper arms off the motor posts. The wipers are secured by a recessed 2.5 mm hex screw on the top of the wiper arm at the 12:00 position. You cannot see this set screw without a mirror. After the hex screw is loosened the wiper arms are then pulled off the motor post. You can use a gear puller or carefully pry the wipers off with a pair of large flat blade screwdrivers. The wiper arm should be off the glass when pulling off the wiper, otherwise the pressure of the spring on the glass interferes with removing the wiper head from the splined motor shaft. A latch on the undersurface of the wiper arm can be loosened and the arm extended about 1.5 inches. This extension is possible because the wiper on the glass angle allows for a longer effective working area for the wiper. The downside to repositioning the is that the wiper is visible on the upper glass instead of resting on the gasket where it is less obvious. As others have said, it is important to have the wiper arms clean and well lubricated with no corrosion or other salt related gunk impeding their function. The wiper springs are relatively weak and any tightness in the hinge system will contribute to ineffective wiping. A liberal application of Rain-X also helps a great deal.

I had ceramic applied to the windows, and 2 seasons later, I still have not used the wipers. Been in some pretty bad muck, and the windshield cleared immediately after each splash.

I regularly spray the spring and knuckle after each outing, but have not removed the plastic shroud. I might do just that.

The downside is that I haven't even hit the wiper switches... and am now outside the warranty, so hopefully they work!?!
