It is located in the compartment under the sink and positioned in a why that makes it difficult or impossible to service the pump in case of service.

Can anyone comment on this.

We do not use it. Shower in the cockpit....of course, we are in South Dakota where there is no one around.....

Once you get the screws out of the cover it can be serviced. I didn't replace the most difficult screw to reach on the cover for ease of future service. The sump box cover is not water tight.
Just another item to keep us flexible.

The shower on our R27 began to drain slow to the point the water didn't want to drain at all. When I accessed the sump I saw water had filled and overflowed due to a failed sump switch. I have had lousy luck with Rule brand switches on bilge pumps and so I decided to replace the original with another brand. It required some modification, but once installed (along with thoroughly cleaning the sump pump) the sump works beautifully. In fact it works better than original because the new switch's actuation point is different and the "on" time of the pump is longer and much more water is pumped out with each cycle. We use our shower every day and haven't used a marina shower in over a year!

Care to post more details

Three years ago our sump stopped working. It took about an hour, but you can lean in there and take the screws off the top of the sump box. You will find all that hair you've been losing, along with some unidentifiable crud that you really don't want to understand, messing with the float switch. If you clean things up in there (don't worry, all the overflow goes to the bilge) you can get things working again. We shower a lot in the head and ours has yet to clog again.

However, beyond the new expletives that you will create and the cuts that you will get on your hand and possibly having to retrieve a screw or two out of the bilge---you will see why they put that sump where they did in the new 29S. Young arms like Kenny's and long skinny arms like Andrew's can make this miserable reach. Old, short, arthritic arms....not so good.
