R25 Auxiliary Motor Package

Any fishermen out there with the auxiliary motor package on a R25 OB? I'm interested in hearing the pros and cons of the system. Thanks all.

I have the 9.9 kicker motor package from the factory on my 2020 R25OB.
I use it for trolling, and it's nice to have a backup for the main 250hp.
Pros: fishing, back-up power
Cons: takes away part of the walk-around swim platform.
Mine came with a remote steering upgrade (not a tie-bar), which has failed after one year - the manufacturer was good about it and is sending me the needed parts. Having said that, I usually let the main motor act as a rudder and steer the boat when the kicker is running. The 250hp actually turns down quite low, and I've trolled from it as well

Can someone post photographs that clearly show the factory installed kicker motor on the current R25/OB model. I want to see just how more it adds to the overall length of the boat with respect to slip size need, and to understand the comment about it restricting the walk-around platform. Also, when one orders the kicker motor op[tion is there a need to also get the kicker motor routing bracket that cost an additional $580 ?

I like the comment about steering the boat with main OB motor so for the kicker motor it's not really needing remote steering, although if you have auto pilot presumably steering can be done using it as well quite easily with changing "Heading Hold" as I understand the kicker motor is connected to main motor with a draw bar.

Also, just how easy would it be to disconnect the kicker motor from its swim step brakes and store it and attach to the port side U rail ? Will all the cabling etc allow for this movement ?

Also, just how slow can the boat be set to with the main OB motor running at lowest RPM (i.e., speed in kts or mph is fine). For the record I would not run the main OB motor at low RPM for too long.... these Yamaha OBs like the higher RPMs for the best efficiency and longevity.... they are equivalent to racing engines IMO.

The Yamaha OBs can also be connected up to computer Yamaha software when being serviced and report out the history of the motors use showing RPM and how much time spent at the RPMs. This can be very telling if ever one buys a used Yamaha OB as running these motors at low RPM for extended times is not that good for its longevity.

Interested in same as I am a bit torn as to whether or not we keep the kicker option on our R23 order...
