R25 Classic, interior volume

Can anyone tell me the interior volume of the R25 classic for sizing a heater/AC? I can calculate it roughly but would like to know the number used by the factory.

My guess is beam x cabin height x 20 feet = 8.5 x 8 x 20 = 1360 cu-feet.

When at the Seattle Boats Afloat last Tues I asked Andrew what the interior volume was for the new R-29 and he really had no good answer. I would suspect the factory does not have a precise number for the R-25 classic either.... but I really dunno for sure.

Why not ask what size units the factory uses. My thought is go with the smaller wabasto and at least 13,000 BTU. My 27 has a 16,000 btu a/c and when in Florida it just about keeps up during the day for cooling. My wabasto is the 3900 diesel. I could have had a smaller one. On low it gets hot in the cabin. And for heat I am talking about outside temperatures of around 40 degrees. I hope this information helps.

I was figuring 1200cf as a nice round number. But if you use Sure Marine's guidelines that equates to 18,000 btu. That seems like an awfully high number. That seems to be born out if the Webasto 3900 is oversized for a 27 at 12,000 btu. The Webasto 2000 is only 7000 btu and they claim it is good for up to a 30ft sailboat. In my experience grossly oversized is not a good thing. Running continuously tends to cause less problems than cyclic operation. But too small is, well... too small. Decisions, decisions...

Remember, the standard numbers are based on an average, so depending on where you plan on using the boat will also have a factor on how much heat or a/c you need to compensate for the outside temperature. On my 3900 Wabasto I leave a couple of windows open.

Yes in my area sizing the AC was pretty simple 😀

Rain also makes a huge difference in heat requirement. I'm wondering how much difference the "carpeted" surfaces will make. Fortunately time is on my side. I've got all winter to figure out what to do. I'll see how well electric heaters do while working on the boat on the trailer.
