Hi, I'm planning to install OceanAir shade screens in the forward cabin and over the helm and Admiral's seats. Does anyone have the sizes - or the OceanAir hatch models?

The previous owner of my 25SC installed them in the same locations that you are planning to. I believe he had them custom ordered. If you remove an interior hatch trim piece, 8 screws, you will be able to get the measurements you need. Mine measure 16 15/16" front to back and side to side.
I highly recommend them, they do a great job blocking the sun with the shade and keeping bugs out with the screen. There is a pic of one installed in my photo album. Someday I would like to add them to the hatches over the table and galley areas.
If you find them readily available please post the info.

Brian,

Thank you - I've used them before and loved the results. I'll check the measurements against your numbers since I usually do it wrong. Do you happen to know the brand of hatches used? Oceanair has a hatch brand data base and fits them exactly.

On my 2010 25SC they are Jim Black hatches. The name is on one of the locking handles.

I purchased 3 Surf Skyscreen Size 40 Whote - # SFSS-40-W-RP. These have a 16 1/2" ID - and DO NOT FIT the Jim Black hatches supplied on the R-25. The ID is fine, but the indent in the "ceiling" is to small for the outside of the hatches and mechanism.

I see others got them to fit. How was this done? Is there a part number I can't find?

Thanks /Stu

Stu,
I have the paper work from the previous owner who installed the SkyScreens. He ordered them from Boat Owners Warehouse in FL. As I had related earlier they were a special order, Oceanair has a custom order form.
Measurements on that form are Internal Width 17", Drop 17", Qty 2, color beige, Version 3, Radius 30, Version 3 Liner 63mm.
Width 14 1/2", Drop 14 5/8", Qty 1, color beige, Version 1. (This is the V Berth Hatch)
The costs in 2010 were $350.00 each for the 17x17 and $280.00 for the smaller one. These fit perfectly on my boat.

Brian,

Thank you. This confuses me more than I was confused. The V-berth on my R25 is the same size as the four in the main salon.

I used "standard" SFSS-40 hatches and they were a tad to large for the V - but have a 16 1/5 inside opening. I managed to make it fit - sort of - and while it looks just fine now, there were a few shaky minutes.

Yours actually sounds bigger than mine - I think, maybe, you were fitting on top of the indent while I was trying to fit in the indent.??.

In the main salon, the hatches are the same size, but the indented area is significantly smaller. The size 40 "standard" hatch fit the coach roof outside the indent with no problems. While it still is strange in my mind, it looks like it was made special for that opening.

Did yours fit flush with the trim ring or flush with the coach roof outside the indented area?

Thanks /Stu

I have a Cutwater and wanted to block out sun/heat as well as allow ventilation at night. I had the windows tinted at a body shop and ordered darker screens from Defender. Was easy to do and cheaper. Bill

They fit flush with the roof outside the indent area, there is a vinyl trim piece that goes up inside the indented area and around the hatch itself. There is a pic of one in my photo album.

Brian,

Thank you! The Shearwater's hatches look and are mounted, exactly as yours are. One difference, the teak trim screwed to the ceiling to hold up the head liner also exists between the two pieces shown in your photo - so I have a piece of trim in the middle of the hatch, making a tight seal difficult.

I removed the trim, intending to cut it, but found the headliner was permanently shaped from the pressure of the trim. So, I put the trim back in place and am placing some rope seal under the new hatch screen to keep out the light and bugs.

It really looks nice and works perfectly.

Thanks to you and others on the "board" who pointed me in the right direction.

This would make a great factory option - quite an improvement in screening and light control for not a lot of money. I paid $153 each.
