When out on the water, the refrig on the R25 only works when we turn on both the battery switch and the 110 switch. Should it work with just the battery switched on?

Thanks, Z

Depends on how it's wired. Take a look at the diagram. Some that are 12/110 models will run on 12V normally, then switch to 110 when it has it available. If you have an inverter (that converts 12V to 110), it is probably just a 110V model and needs both switches on.

My understanding is there has been 2 or more changes in the design. My R25 (2008, Hull #67) has 110V & 12 VDC supplys. I believe the compressor on my boat is a 12VDC motor with 2 sources. Mine works if power is available from either. If both breakers are "ON" then it appears to choose a perferred source but if only one is "ON" it still works.

I think the older R25s had 12DC/110AC fridges. The newer ones have 110V and I think there was an inverter added.

That would explain the apparent differences I have heard about. Mine is Hull #67 which is older design.

This depends on the Year of the tug and what model of refer you have. If its a Norcold, it is operated on 120volt or 12volt. You can turn either or on. If you are plugged into shore power and turn both switches on, it will run on 120 volt and will not cause damage. If you are not connected to shore power, it will run only off battery and operate by turning on your 12 volt switch on the 12 volt distribution panel located at the v-berth entry.

If you have a Nova Kool refer, it is operated on 12 volts only. Hope this helps!

And if you are not connected to shore power, and your batteries are dead, you gotta use ice!!

Andrew, with the Novacool, are those boats the ones with the inverters?

Thanks Andrew, gotta meet you someday!
