I enlarged the opening on the front of the step for easier access to the the engine. There are more pics in my photo album of the process. I have since changed out the raw water impeller and having the extra room certainly made the job a lot easier.

This was a Winter job on the boat, the boat won't be in the water for another month. I really don't expect to find an increase in engine noise.
