Hi All - I have a (new to me) 2016 R27 with a Penta D3 200 HP Engine. It started limiting the max power down to about 1900 RPM recently. After much diagnostics at a good marina, we found that there must be an obstruction at the outlet of the fuel tank reducing fuel pump pressure causing the issue. Bypassing the tank with an external/temporary tank "fixed" the problem and the line was blown out (mouth) and the problem went away as whatever is blocking the outlet probably drifted away (for now).

I need to get at the tank. Does anyone know:

1. Is there some sort of coarse filter in the tank?
2. How do you get at the tank which seems to be under the floor of the cabin?

Any suggestions for dealing with this would be appreciated.

Hi Scott,

There is a small screen that is on the end of the pickup tube in the tank. For access to the tank, I don't recall on the older R27s, but you may have the tank access hatch in the rear of the cabin main floor. If so, you will find the aft end of the tank inside that hatch. If you do not, then you should be able to access the tank through the quarter berth by removing the inboard "wall" by locating the screws in the rat fur (the white material that covers the panel) and removing them. You should see the connections for fuel lines, sender, etc. at the aft end of the tank. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf

Go with Ralph's first recommendation. Remove the pickup tube which is accessible under the step. Remove screen at bottom of tube.

I have the same 2916 R27 and here is a photo of the end of the fuel tank under the aft step. I did modify for better access. More pics in TugEtherness photo album.

I just went thru what you are dealing with...exactly. Refer to a thread a week or so ago entitled "Fuel pickup removal." It has a lot of really good information that you will want to have.

I got mine apart and are going to put it back together today. The screen on the end of the pickup tube was clean, but I removed it anyway.
