I'm starting the install of a Garmin autopilot this weekend and some pics of an installed pump would be a big help in assisting me with the exact location/position... Any lessons learned from those who have installed the system on a R27 would also be appreciated... Thanks in advance!

Hi Jim,

This is the factory pump installation on my 2012 R27.

Good luck with your installation!

Howard,
Thanks for the pic and quick response! Seeing a pic of the installed pump is a big help... Up until now my plan was to install the pump via tee's in the hydraulic lines... Connecting the lines direct to the pump manifold like Ranger does will be easier.

Jim,

If you have not already done so, recommend you contact Andrew Custis at Ranger Tugs. A year or so ago he sent me a draft copy of an illustrated pamphlet he was working on that outlined the procedure for installing a Garmin autopilot in a R25. Suspect the installation would be similar in an R27.

Hi,

Couple of things to make life easier.

-Remove fridge and get it out of the way, all the NMEA backbone is behind there. Plus, you can barely get your head in there to help you get the lines through.
-Contact Ranger for the complete parts kit to add the autopilot. Good price and it's all there. Make sure you ask for a few quarts of hydraulic fluid as well.
-get an extra Tee and saw off the Tee part to connect your old lines to your new lines to pull them through. Two people makes this job a lot easier. Also, don't forget to connect a fish tape to one end of one of the lines and pull it through to pull the third line back through the other way.
- Pay carefull attention on bleeding, it can be a major source of frustration if it's not bled correctly.
-Pull out the panel on the v-berth side of the helm, most of the access is gained there.
-seal the pump screws, it's in a wet area.
-some pics in my album if you like. You can PM me with questions, I just did this a few months ago.

Thanks to everyone for the advise including Andrew who provided the R25 install directions and additional help via email... Hydraulic hoses have been run and electronics are installed... All thats left is hose connections, bleeding and calibration... If the thunderstorms hold off until tonight the install will be complete after work today.
