Pulling away from the dock this week I had a brief thrust from the bow thruster followed by a high whining noise. The motor is still working but no thrust.

Before taking the boat out of the water I’m hoping to get parts. Is it likely the impeller has broken off the shaft or perhaps it may be the sheer pin?

How do I access the drive motor to check the pin in a 2015 R27?

Thanks - Brad

Answering one of my own questions I found the motor under the forward berth cushions.

As the motor is mounted sideways to the thruster tube, can the motor be removed while in the water?

Yes just serviced mine. Frost thing to check is the shear pin. Pull the 4 bolts and see if the brass shear pin is good. Once you know that the next things to check require the boat out of the water

Sounds like it is probably the shear pin. You should have a spare in the bag with the manual. If not, get a few and have them on hand. I doubt it is the shaft, hence you can do the job while it is in the water.

Thanks everyone.

It was indeed the shear pin. After 6 years it had given up the ghost. Lots of brass shavings found in the area so it was well worn.

I haven’t found an original part yet but have McGyvered another shear pin purchased from a local marine store. It will suffice until I can get an original.

Bought spare shear pins from RT factory, keep spares.
