Hello,

You are correct, must be connected to shore power or have generator. Turn on hot water heater breaker which will turn on the hot water tank. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Yes, as Kevin has said.

Suggestions (excluding an onboard generator)

1) You can heat up the water via shore power before you leave. This may give you some immediate hot water which will obviously cool off over time.

2) Use the propane stove to heat small quantities of water for your use.

3) If it's sunny use a solar shower... :roll:

thanks for suggestions but to keep the little lady happy I need to make sure it works. My orientation was cut very short due to a late evening delivery so I am learning a lot myself (not a complaint as I prefer to learn by doing). I have had the boat since March and never have felt hot water coming out so I was wondering if I did not turn something on or if there is a temp control that I did not see. Hopefully not a burned out element. I did chec to be sure water is in the tank. Manual is not a lot of help. Seems to assume you have the option of heating by the engine. But let me give it another shot tonight.

Not knowing the model of heater, there may be a reset button on the unit. You may want to check that out.

The engine heats my water very well after a short run. There is so much residual heat that I'll even have hot water in the morning after. Maybe not enough for a shower, but certainly enough to do the morning dishes.

The outboard models don't have the capability to use engine heat for the water heater. They must use either shore power or generator.

We are a 2014 27'. Learn from my error. I inadvertently flipped the hw breaker when using inverter. Inverter in line fuse did not blow, instead all fuses in inverter fried. I Had to replace all of them. After that error, I marked the toggle so we don't use it! HW plenty from engine and we don't have shore power access anyway.

Yeah, that wiring setup should have been different. The panel should have been split with the outlets and microwave on inverter feed and the air conditioner and water heater direct from shore power with a breaker from the panel feeding the inverter. It is one of my bucket list projects.

So knotflying wins. I took the 4 screws off the cover looking for a reset button. At first I saw none. Looking closer I saw a little piece of plastic about the size of three pin heads tied together. Figured what the heck I will push it and see what happens. Miracle I have hot water in time for our first overnight and made the wife happy.

So my question would why did you have to 'reset' in the first place?

Sounds like this should have been caught during final inspection and delivery. Would have been easy to hook up shore power and test for warm/hot water within a short time as the tank is a mere 5.3 gallons.

The very extensive Checklist posted by RT shows these two check items related to the water heater.

Water Heater: verify water heater turns on/off with breaker ⬜

and

Water Heater: water heater is installed correctly and secure ⬜ all hoses/connections are tight and not leaking ⬜ wiring is routed correctly and secure ⬜ wiring is heat-shrunk ⬜ water heater drain operates correctly and doesn’t leak ⬜

Water Gauge: Fill water tank and verify gauge reflects the level of water in the tank ⬜

I get your point but to be fair i don't know when it was tripped. What i would like to see is these types of issues built into the owner manual. Easy fixes found here on tugnuts incorporated into the manuals.

If power was turned on to the water heater before it was filled it would likely have tripped the little reset button. I have experience with electric residential water heater elements burning out because power was applied without water in the tank.
