There must be a fix for the extremely noisy fresh water pump on my 2020 R27? It is embarrassing to run the fresh water in a marina with other boats nearby. My dealer says all R27s have the same issue? Maybe a different pump?

If there is air in the lines, it will be very noisy. To get air out of the lines:

1) turn off the pump
2) open all faucets (hot and cold)
3) turn on the pump and run a bunch of water through (30 seconded)
4) begin closing faucets starting with the closest.
5) don’t forget the cockpit shower if you have one.

Our factory pump is quiet as a mouse, unless we run out of water, then we have to do the procedure again.

I am on my third fresh water pump on my 2018 C242. As the other Gentleman said make sure there is no air in the lines. Also check the filter on the pump as that will get clogged from debris in the tank from being new and the tank not cleaned before assembly and that will cause the pump to get loud. I have taken these pumps apart and cleaned and check the diaphragm and still they make noise. I just put a new pump in and it’s quiet but not sure for how long. I am going to put a variable speed pump in the next time I need one. There have been a few posts on Tugnuts concerning noisy water pumps.

Ditto on the many posts on the noisy water pumps. However, it seems like FM may have used different pumps for different years? Not sure on that one. Mine is, I believe, a Jabsco - and I have a 2020 also. R23, but I imagine it's the same basic layout.

That Jabsco is as you said... embarrassingly noisy in a quiet anchorage - more so at a marina! Plumbing is my trade, so I went through all the issues with filters and bleeding air. It's just a crazy-noisy pump that translates directly to the side of the boat. I put some extra grommets for mounting, and that helped a little bit. I'm going to do as others have done and get a new Johnson variable pump and toss this noisemaker where it belongs!

I also wonder if others have this Jabsco and don't find it annoyingly loud? It's possible - IMO - that Jabsco just had a bad batch, and they all went into our 2020's. I've had similar thing happen, so it's a possibility.

I have a 2021 r27. it definitely has a noisy pump.

I put in theJohnson 5 gpm variable speed pump with a .65 L accumulator charged to 55 psi. Nice and quiet now

Just yesterday on our '21 R27OB I swapped the factory Jabsco Par-Max 3.5/gpm pump with a Marco 4/gpm variable speed pump. The difference is striking, with the grinding of the Jabsco being replaced by the low variable whir of the Marco.

My main motivation was to have a back-up pump in case the primary pump failed in a remote area. But even after proper purging of the Jabsco, it was still annoyingly loud. Marco pumps aren't inexpensive but the build quality appears to be very high. Time will tell but I'm liking it so far with no regrets.

T tried the procedure and the pump is still loud. However the toilet flush is extremely loud and I thought the procedure would cure that but it didn’t. Any suggestions.

2019 c28 with 120 hours.

So I have a 2015 R27 and the pump works perfectly but just goes "Brrrrt, Brrrt, Brrrt!

IDo they ever just flow like the water does at home?

Just to add to the noise, I have a 2015 R27 too, and I would say it is noisy! I haven’t tried any of these tricks, but have wanted to solve the issue sooner or later.

When I run the water, it is as someone else said, Brrt, brrt brrt and anyone in the immediate area can hear it. It is also, annoyingly slow unless I have it in spray mode on the sink.

Cheers - dn

A variable speed pump (with accumulator depending on the manufacturer recommendation) will make it flow much more smoothly, and also much quieter.

Like some others we swapped out the factory pump and kept it as a backup; much happier with the variable speed and small accumulator. FWIW changing the pump was one of the simplest possible boat upgrades; a couple of easy water connections, a few screws, and 2 DC wires. Moving things slightly to make room for the accumulator took a small bit of planning but also easy.

Hey friends, I also have a r27 (2015) and am planning on replacing the water pump and adding an accumulator.

I’d be interested in what is working for you and what you have installed!

Also, where you bought yours from is helpful too?

Thanks

Please give this a listen and let me know if you think our pump is loud or quiet. Maybe loud is a subjective term.

That's pretty quiet as best I can tell from the video! Our factory pump was loud enough that I worried about disturbing neighboring boats in quiet moorages. That definitely would not be the case for yours. It all depends on the details of installation, vibration in the water lines, etc., it seems.

It has been that loud before. If I run the tank out of water and blow it out to winterize it, it will be embarrassingly loud until I get the air out of the lines. After that, it’s all quiet again.

SJI: I can only DREAM of our pump on our R29CB being that quiet! Guess I'm gonna be trying to bleed out air as others have suggested in other posts to try to rectify the issue on our boat...otherwise I guess it's gonna be another "upgrade"! :|

Hi all,

All good answers here, especially the accumulator. One additional thing to try is to add a 360 degree loop on the output side of the pump. That usually helps a lot in quieting things down.

Cheers,

Ralf

Just to add another data point. I'm in the middle of installing a fw filter, and during the install, I had a "temporary" loop of hose between the pump and the cold water tee. Maybe 3 ft long. Made a huge difference in noise and pulsation. Not perfect, but huge improvement for minimal cost. Should get even better once the filter is added to the "loop". Just a suggestion for a first effort.

My thoughts are that the factory connection between the pump and the "plumbing" is just too short and transmits vibration. The loop provides some isolation, and also some elasticity.

Definitely going to give the filter and loop a try. I’ve been thinking this could likely be largely a vibration transmission issue.

Can you confirm the diameter of the blue PEX?
