Have a 2018 R27 OB and did not like the battery setup, so I took the battery out of the port side hatch, (house and thruster) installed 4ea. AGM 6 Volt batteries in center hatch, left the thruster battery switch but now have the thruster running off of the house batteries, I now have 400 ah on the house batteries twice what I have before. For now I left the start battery alone but am thinking of moving it right behind the tow bar. Interested in comments from you R27 OB people. I have included a link with two pictures

Curious to hear more about the 6 volt batteries. One of my house batteries on my R23 is dead after two years, which explains why I was having issues at anchor. My mechanic recommended I switch to 6 volt batteries for the house. Our RV mechanic had recommended the same thing, so there must be something to it.

Great move to relocate the House Batteries. Much better for accessible for maintenance and replacement. My 2019 R27OB has a generator so locating the House Bstteris in the center compartment is not an option. I did however slide the House and Thruster batteries about a foot aft so they could be accessed. I personally would not relocate the starting battery for the outboard as it is easily accessed in its current location. Haven’t switched to 6V batteries tied in series but probably will when house batteries need replacing. Virtually all high end motor homes use 6V batteries these days due to capacity and charging cycles. Don’t know why the marine industry hasn’t made the same conversion YET.

I swapped out the thruster battery on/off switch with a on/off/combine switch.

During normal operations I have 2 house batteries and a thruster battery. On anchor I can flip the thruster switch to combine and add a 3rd battery to the house. Easy and inexpensive mod.

Do you have a part number for this on/off/combine part?
