My 2019 Model schematic for the A/C shows a variable speed fan. However, the A/C fan only runs at one speed no matter from the remote or the C/P.
Question 1A: Is this unique to my boat?
Question 2A: Can I fix this myself?

While installing a small fan for my comfort at the helm (install location on the overhead centerline teak trim), I had thought to use the FAN switch on the Helm 8 switch panel for power. Realizing the fan had it's own variable speed switch, I discarded that notion. However, before that, I traced the FAN switch lines and found the following:
1. Wire at FAN switch is Orange, changing to a Orange-White at a butt splice before the Amphenol Connector. The other side of the connector, the wire changed to Purple-White as per the Factory Schematic.
2. The Purple-White wire is labeled Defroster. The schematic shows this wire feeds two motors.
3. This switch does nothing. I turned it on and heard no fans, felt no air flow.
I figure this is a hold-over from the NW edition, but am not sure about that.
Question 1B: Why did FM use 3 different colored wires for one circuit?
Question 2B: Where does the Purple-White wire go? Is it connected to anything on the Luxury Edition?
Question 3B: Is this related to Problem 1? (3 speed fan only has 1 speed).

Note: While pulling panels to route wires for my new fan I found the Factory drilled a screw through the power line of the center forward cabin light. Scary! Now I'm wondering what else they drilled through!

Don't get me wrong, I love my RT, but the things I've found while pulling things apart make me wonder if FM has ever heard of Quality Assurance!

Hey there Jeff,

Feel free to call us directly and or email us. It will be easier to get the team involved who can answer these specific questions. Once we have everything dialed in, you are more than welcome to post the response on here. My direct email is andrewcustis@rangertugs.com.

Thank you,

Andrew,

You have the information as posted.
Please email me at jmrrtech@gmail.com with your thoughts, questions, follow-up, etc.
I'll be happy to communicate via email.

Thanks,

Hey Jeffy,
You seem to be very unhappy.. Perhaps you should cut your "losses" and buy something else....

Looking for constructive comments here "Stevie".
If I were to cut anything, it would be your internet connection.

I get what Jeff is saying. Personally, I would use the stock fan switch since it has a speed control.

I would than use the fan switch at the helm for power and using a meter to see which wires i could use too. Keep in mind that you may need to change the fuse or breaker to the right size.

Jeff
Not sure why you would not take Andrew up on his offer but that is your decision to make. I do believe there are prior posts on the fan issue. While the instructions provided by the a/c manufacturer indicate a variable speed it either is not or it is so minimal you cannot tell. That is my experience as well. We keep a small table top fan on board that runs off the inverter. Perhaps will install a permanent one at some point.

Not sure if the same AC unit. On my 2013 CW 26 you can program features the way you want them. There are programmable
parameters for low fan speed and high. On mine the fan never slowed down because the low speed parameter was set to high. There should be a list of all customizable parameters in the owners manual. I certainly would take Andrew up on his offer to walk you through the systems one on one.

My '19 R27 OB A/C is the same: NO fan speed control. Blows like a tornado in our ears all night. Hi/Low/Auto have no effect. We were told previously that "...the A/C fan does 'slow' but it isn't noticeable by sound" Really????

Look in your owners manual. I'm not on my boat so not exactly sure which buttons to hold but when you turn on AC you hold a combination of buttons. This will take you to the parameters that you can customize. Mine blew on high all the time. Now it gradually slows as unit reaches selected temp on panel. When the temp is reached compressor shuts off, pump shuts off, and fan runs so low that you can't hear it. When temp changes from set temp the pump comes on for a few seconds then compressor and the fan . All programmable in the system. Hope this helps.

My switch also does nothing . I asked my dealer and didn't get a definitive answer . Mind you , my boat was pulled out after 13 days in the water due to serious hull issues . I had bigger problems to worry about . 2018 R27

I've emailed Andrew with the questions. I'll post the final answer when I get it.

I've run wires for my DC fan, connected it today. The fan switch is bad. Oh well, another trip to West Marine to see about a replacement. I've found those little variable speed switches (press once for on low, again for medium, again for high, again for off) are a high failure rate item, so I will try to find a good cheap single speed on/off fan.
