Does anyone know how to access the shower sump pump on an R27?

Classic or OB? In the classic it is under the triangular insert in the floor of the cabinet under the head sink.

I looked under there but only saw hoses. I didn’t see any pump or float switch

Could you please tell us what model R27 you have? The showers in the classic diesel inboard and the newer outboard models are in completely different locations.

Tugboat Bob, if you have a “classic” you are looking in the correct location for access. One of the hoses you saw should have been the white plastic drain hose. The other hoses are hot and cold-water supply lines to the galley and head sinks. The shower pump and switch box is located aft of the opening under the sink. You have to reach back towards the water heater to reach the box. There is not much clearance here and it is difficult to remove the 4 screws holding the box cover in place. (Old design box that is, a newer design box lid is held in place with latches)

Thanks for the feedback. I have the classic design with a diesel engine. I’ll try looking aft as advised. Thanks for the input

Red Raven gave you the skinny on where to find the shower sump. I’ll go into more detail.

The shower sump is a rectangular box under the hoses you saw when you looked for the sump under the sink. You will have to pull those hoses aside to get to the box.

Your shower drains to that box and inside the box is a float switch and bilge pump. The float switch can be a source of problems— it can stick ON or OFF, it can fail ON or OFF. Mine failed ON. The only way to shut it off was to pull the fuse in the DC power distribution panel under the port side hinged step.

To get to the pump and float switch, the top of the box must be removed. The two back screws require a small stubby phillips screw driver or a right angle phillips. It can be a frustrating task. I wish had better news.

Once you get the top of the box off, there are several threads about diesel R27 sump box maintenance. Do a forum search.

Some folks, myself included, have removed the troublesome float switch and installed a manual ON/OFF switch to run the bilge pump. Here’s a link to a thread of how I accomplished that task.

Thank you Caspers Cruiser, good additional detail!

FYI to Tugboat Bob and others, I replaced those damn Near impossible to get to Phillips screws in the top of the shower sump box with “eye” screws. Eye screws can be screwed in by hand like thumb screws (which would be even better if what I could find were actually screws instead of thumb “nuts”!) 😀 Now it only takes a few minutes to remove the lid. It does not need to be screwed down tight.

Red Raven’s idea is a good one that I will implement if ever I have to remove that dang shower sump box top.
