I finally got around to replacing the shear pin in my stern thruster. It took me about 2 hours. I made my own stubby Allen wrench and bought a bolt and cut off the head for an alignment stud when reinstalling it - all tips I picked up here. Yes, my chest was a bit bruised when I finished from leaning into the rear compartment to do the work. Thanks to everyone who contributes ideas here.

I assume I have to replace mine as well in my C30 CB (see separate tugnuts post). Can you elaborate on the tips, or point me to the other posts? I'm hoping theres a bit more room in my boat but anticipating that it will be difficult.
